2026 New Year Message from the President, ASCE Nigeria Section

Dear Esteemed Members of the ASCE Nigeria Section,

Happy New Year and warm greetings to you and your families as we step confidently into 2026. The beginning of a new year presents an opportunity to reflect with gratitude on the journey behind us and to look ahead with renewed purpose, hope, and determination.

As we usher in 2026, it is only fitting to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable achievements of 2025, a year that will remain significant in the history of the ASCE Nigeria Section. Our progress over the past year was not the result of individual effort, but the product of collective commitment, shared vision, and selfless service from our members.

I extend my sincere appreciation to every member who contributed in diverse ways to the success of the Section. Whether through leadership, volunteering, participation in programs, or consistent support, your efforts strengthened our community and advanced our mission.

I would like to specially recognize our volunteers, whose dedication and service - often behind the scenes - remain the backbone of our activities. Your willingness to give your time and skills continues to sustain the Section and ensures the successful delivery of our programs.

To our students and younger members, you continue to inspire confidence in the future of the civil engineering profession in Nigeria. Your energy, enthusiasm, and increasing involvement in Section activities brought fresh perspectives and vitality to our programs. Your participation in webinars, conferences, outreach initiatives, competitions, and volunteer activities was truly commendable.

I also express my profound appreciation to our Section leaders, committee chairs, officers, branch leaders, and student groups and leaders for their guidance, discipline, and unwavering sense of responsibility throughout 2025. Your leadership ensured stability, continuity, and progress, even while balancing professional and personal commitments.

A defining highlight of 2025 was the Global Presidential Visit Week, during which the ASCE Nigeria Section had the distinct honor of hosting the ASCE President, Dr. Feniosky Peña-Mora, the ASCE Executive Director, Mr. Tom Smith, and members of the ASCE Region 10 Board of Governors. This historic visit significantly elevated the global visibility of our Section and reaffirmed Nigeria’s strategic relevance within the global ASCE community. The engagements and interactions during this period will undoubtedly yield lasting benefits for our Section and members.

As we begin 2026, I encourage every member to remain actively engaged and committed to the growth of the Section. Our strength lies in unity, service, and purposeful participation beyond titles and positions. Let us continue to support one another, mentor the next generation, volunteer more intentionally, and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, innovation, and service to society.

One of our key strategic priorities for the year is the establishment of more student chapters, and I call on members - particularly those in academia, to actively support this effort by identifying prospective institutions, serving as mentors and student coordinators, and working with the Section to nurture and sustain these chapters for long-term impact.

On behalf of the leadership of the ASCE Nigeria Section, I thank you sincerely for your contributions and support. Together, we have laid a strong foundation for even greater achievements ahead.

I wish you a fulfilling, prosperous, and impactful year ahead.

My Best Begards,

Engr. Austin Odibi, MASCE, PMP
President, ASCE Nigeria Section
